Have you ever experienced meeting someone for the first time and you both just connects? When we meet others for the first time, we assess whether they are positive or negative towards us. We do this by reading the other person's body language to see if they move or act the same way we do in what is known as 'mirroring'.
We mirror each other's body language as a way of bonding, being accepted and creating rapport. Using DISC in your business or personal life, you would see the benefits it can provide when it comes to communicating in a way that others will accept more effectively.
Look at when approaching an introvert person, in DISC this would be the S and C personality type. The best method to communicate with them effectively, is to match their vocal pitch, volume and gestures so you can avoid putting them on edge.
If you are a D or an I personality type, this may require some practice. Suppressing your natural instinct of telling in a conversation and switching it to an asking conversation, will allow them to participate more comfortably.
When communicating with a D personality type, provide the information necessary and ask if they need any further direction. The D personality type was likely making plans on how to accomplish the task or come to a conclusion to it. Razzing on and on will only get them to be impatient and cause their frustration.
Your I personality type friends and coworkers are likely well-known for being great with people. The I personalities will be your greatest advantages when selling products or proposing ideas. They are passionate about concepts or thoughts they believe in and can influence others to feel the same excitement.
DISC is as guideline for way of bonding, creating rapport, motivation and as communication. Be ready to adjust your DISC style to match those of others, practice this with everyone you meet it will come in handy.
